Important Safety Information To Consider When Applying Intensity Twin Stim III

By Cornelia Reyes

It is prudent to start by defining InTENSity Twin Stim III and knowing how it works before indulging on a discussion on the important safety information to consider when using. It may be define as an electric device used for pain relief and electrical muscle stimulation. The stimulator sends the electrical currents which are gentle to the underlying nerves and muscles through electrodes applied on the skin. The buttons on the front panel are used to control the parameters of the device. The level of the intensity is normally adjusted to meet the needs of the patient.

The following are some of the important safety information to consider. The device should only be handled by a physician who is licensed to handle it. The device do not have any curative value to talk off and the long term effect are not known.

Patients with known sensitivity to the carotid sinus reflex should not use the device on the carotid sinus nerve. This is for the reason that can cause effect to the nerves. If the patient is having pain in areas such as the neck and the mouths, an alternative pain reliever should be used.

sinceIt is important to note that it is not effective for use in reducing pain which area of central origin. Such as headache unless the physician has recommended so. This is so since it works through sending electrical current to the muscles underlying the area of pain. Headache is caused from the brain and the muscles should not be send to the nerves in the brain.

The stimulation should not be allowed to occur if the patient is connected to a high frequency surgical equipment. If the stimulation is allowed to take place, the high frequency surgical equipment is likely to cause burn injuries to the skin.

It should also not be used in the vicinity of shortwave or microwave therapy equipment. This is because it may affect the power output of the stimulator. It must not be used in an environment with high humidity. Examples of environment with high humidity includes the bathroom, the wash room or even when having a bath.

If it is used in the in areas surrounded by either microwave therapy equipment or shortwave therapy equipment, there is likelihood that its output power will be affected. Therefore it must not be applied within the areas surrounded by the microwave and shortwave therapy equipment. Areas with high humidity in the environment such as the bathrooms must also be avoided.

It should only be applied to skin areas which are dry clean and which are not broken. The electrodes must also be kept separated during the treatment. These are some of the important safety information to consider when applying InTENSity Twin Stim III
